Biology is the study of living organisms: their structure, function, organization, origin, and evolution. Our state-of-the-art Biology laboratories allow instructors to guide students in advanced research methods. The Lewis Lab studies persister cells responsible for tolerance to antibiotics, uncultured bacteria of the environment and the microbiome, and works on drug discovery. Each of these cells can carry out processes, e.g. anabolic and catabolic reactions, in order to sustain life. THey also use mtDNA mutations to trace mtDNA lineages and to study human evolution.
